Pamela Lyss-Lerman
Recess Volunteer Coordinator

The Recess Team coordinates parent volunteers for recess yard duty. At recess, kids decompress, process learning, develop socially, exercise physically, and practice resolving conflicts. Having caring adults on the yard helps keep recess safe, fun and inclusive for all students at Miraloma.

If you are interested in volunteering for recess (during morning or lunch recess) either on a regular or occasional basis, please email your availability and interest to

Playworks Partnership

Miraloma is partnering with Playworks to train staff and parent volunteers in ways to support and promote healthy play at recess. More information about Playworks and the Power of Play.

For the school year 2015-2016, we will have a Playworks Site Coordinator at Miraloma for a week every month, who will support our recess team in creating a fun and organized recess. The site coordinator and our recess team will implement the Playworks Junior Coach Program to establish student leadership within the school and to build student ownership of key recess responsibilities. During the weeks that the Playworks Site Coordinator is at our school, s/he leads classes in regularly scheduled periods of 30-45 minutes to teach students and teachers recess activities and recess culture.
