Miraloma Elementary opened in 1940 in temporary wooden buildings. Construction of a permanent Miraloma Elementary School by Monson Brothers (who also built the Mount Davidson Cross in 1934) was completed in 1952. In November of 1952 the new school at Omar Way was opened with 400 pupils in Kindergarten through grade six.

You can read more on the history of Miraloma Elementary, its neighborhood and Mount Davidson by author Jacquie Proctor. Jacquie is an active community volunteer and neighborhood preservationist, having served on the board of the Miraloma Park Improvement Club and co-founded the Friends of Mount Davidson Conservancy. She is an expert on the Western neighborhoods of San Francisco, and is available for guiding field trips and/or speaking at parent events.
