Special SSC Budget meeting
The School Site Council has been working over the past several weeks to help craft a responsible school budget in these precarious financial times for public education and our school . Please read The 2010 – 2011 Budget Recommendation & FAQ which resulted from the special budget meeting held on March 22. It was informed by the preliminary results of the school wide survey and staff recommendations. We very much value transparency in the budget process; and any questions or feedback you may have. Please feel free to contact any members of the SSC listed here with questions or comments and/or attend the special budget meeting on Thu April 8 at 8am in the cafeteria.

"Building Blocks to Early Literacy" Presentation
by Miraloma K-2 reading teacher John Mehring
PTA Meeting April 14, 8:00 am

Reading is rocket science, so kids need a lot of reading practice at school and at home with you! John Mehring, Miraloma reading teacher, will present an overview of the foundations - including the "5 pillars" - of early literacy. Learn what you can do to help your child be a successful reader. We will have some practice in guided reading, word study and writing for beginning readers. You will leave this workshop with a clearer understanding of the reading process, as well as more tools to be a better tutor for your child. The presentation will close with a "walk" of interesting books from Miraloma's library. Q & A included.

 Green Zebra
The next First Friday on April 9 is the last day for sales of the community favorite Green Zebra coupon books. Each book costs just $25 (cash or check payable to Miraloma PTA), and provides $10 to us and much more than $25 in savings back to you!
With over 275 exclusive offers there's something for everyone to discover. Totaling more than $10,000 in savings, many Green Zebra passes will save you more than the guide's purchase price in a single visit.

School supporters Chloe's Closet, Sports Basement, Cole Hardware, and Miraloma's own Pacific Catch are in there, as well as Mollie Stone's, Rainbow Grocery, Whole Foods, and many more of the businesses you visit regularly.

Best of all, Green Zebra is good for the community. Sales of the guide support education through Graze the Roof, and passes encourage you to support local businesses. They also make great gifts for local friends and family.

To get your book and benefit Miraloma, contact Kathleen Wydler
Oliver Chin Books
You Can Still Buy Books by Oliver Chin
Many thanks to Miraloma's own beloved children's book author Oliver Chin, who has donated $363.36 from the sale of his books to the
Miraloma PTA.

If you missed getting your copy of The Year of the Tiger, Julie Black Belt, Welcome to Monster Isle or any of his other wonderful titles at the book fair, it's not too late! Just complete this form and return with your check payable to "Miraloma PTA" to the parent box in the main office by May 14. Oliver will even inscribe your books!

Oliver's stories make great read-alouds for your family and great gifts for friends. Our students love to hear them read at story time in the library - thanks again to Oliver's generosity, we have a complete set! Learn more at www.immedium.com.

Grumpy Pirates, Story Camps and Tutoring
Story Camp is a creative, energized series of workshops that include writing, improvisation, art and trust games and exercises. The primary objectives of Story Camps are to learn how to tell good stories, to boost confidence and to make new friends. Simultaneously, we sneak in some academic study of writing composition, public speaking and collaboration. But, we keep that on the down low lest it starts to feel a bit too much like s-c-h-o-o-l. Read more.
No Request Policy & Parent Feedback
"No Request Policy" is in place to support a fair system of class placement. Please do not put teachers in an uncomfortable and unfair position by formally OR informally mentioning a  preference for a specific teacher. They each work diligently and thoughtfully to determine class assignments for your children for each year and truly are the best at what they do!

Miraloma parents/guardians have the opportunity to provide feedback about their child through the Parent Input Class Assignment Form.
Please EMAIL THIS FORM or print and return to Mr. Machado by April 30.
 MealpayPlus: Prepay School Lunches Online
If your child pays full price for school meals, you are urged to pay for lunch and/or breakfast ahead of time.
You may now pay online by credit card, debit card or electronic check by going to www.mealpayplus.com and setting up an account using your child’s SFUSD H0 number. If you choose to pay by cash or check, please use this meal order form, put the cash or check in an envelope and have your child return it to his/her teacher or the cafeteria manager. Read more about order & payment options. See MealpayPlus-flyer for more information.
