Auction Social Events
We have just experienced the reward of two amazing Miraloma moms, who took their devotion to our school and converted it into a sumptuous evening. Meryl Bennan and Julie Wise are regular volunteers at school. They used their passion for food, personal expertise, and enthusiasm for cooking to benefit the school financially at last year's auction by offering up their time and resources as an auction item. The six course Farmer's Market meal for twelve was beyond expectation - and I am sure it yielded such rewarding results because of their love for food, friends, and our school. I am not writing to gloat, just to say how satisfying it can be to share time with other parents from our community.
Recently, Ron requested more social events be added to the auction, and I whole-heartedly agree.
Events like this are worth more than their monetary value. Consistently, the social events sold at the auction have been tremendous, bonding experiences with other Miraloma parents. Some of them have been great for kid bonding as well - getting them out to shared experiences beyond their usual social group.
Perhaps you have some talent that you are passionate about - that you can share with other Miraloma families and generate some financial contributions to the school via the auction.

Green Zebra |
The next First Friday on April 9 is the last day for sales of the community favorite Green Zebra coupon books. Each book costs just $25 (cash or check payable to Miraloma PTA), and provides $10 to us and much more than $25 in savings back to you!
With over 275 exclusive offers there's something for everyone to discover. Totaling more than $10,000 in savings, many Green Zebra passes will save you more than the guide's purchase price in a single visit.
School supporters Chloe's Closet, Sports Basement, Cole Hardware, and Miraloma's own Pacific Catch are in there, as well as Mollie Stone's, Rainbow Grocery, Whole Foods, and many more of the businesses you visit regularly.
Best of all, Green Zebra is good for the community. Sales of the guide support education through Graze the Roof, and passes encourage you to support local businesses. They also make great gifts for local friends and family.

Many thanks to Miraloma's own beloved children's book author Oliver Chin, who has donated $363.36 from the sale of his books to the Miraloma PTA.
If you missed getting your copy of The Year of the Tiger, Julie Black Belt, Welcome to Monster Isle or any of his other wonderful titles at the book fair, it's not too late! Just complete this form and return with your check payable to "Miraloma PTA" to the parent box in the main office by May 14. Oliver will even inscribe your books!
Oliver's stories make great read-alouds for your family and great gifts for friends. Our students love to hear them read at story time in the library - thanks again to Oliver's generosity, we have a complete set! Learn more at www.immedium.com. |

Grumpy Pirates, Story Camps and Tutoring |
|
Story Camp is a creative, energized series of workshops that include writing, improvisation, art and trust games and exercises. The primary objectives of Story Camps are to learn how to tell good stories, to boost confidence and to make new friends. Simultaneously, we sneak in some academic study of writing composition, public speaking and collaboration. But, we keep that on the down low lest it starts to feel a bit too much like s-c-h-o-o-l.
