 Time to READ-READ-READ and LOG-LOG-LOG!
Now in week 2 of the Read-a-thon....What YOU can do to help the kids:
  • Help your children read and keep track of their time on the Reading Log located in the Read–a-thon (R-A-T) package
  • ALL reading counts...even when read to by teacher or other adult
  • Round up to 5 min increments when logging times
  • Help the kids solicit pledges from friends and relatives for their reading time
  • Participate in the reading part of the program whether your child chooses to solicit pledges or not
  • Help your classroom to win a popcorn party...classrooms need 90% reading participation to get one.

Watch our book worm grow along the school corridor with books read by the students during this Read-a-thon.  Remind the kids to fill-out a paper “book circle” in the library (during library time) with something they read at home or school.  The book circles will be stored in the library, fill one out at drop-off or pick-up!

All the children are very excited about this program.  Let’s encourage our children to READ, READ, READ during February 3rd through the 17th!  Remember, 100% of the pledge money collected through the Read-a-thon goes towards the Art programs at the school; this is a great opportunity to CELEBRATE and REWARD your child's good reading efforts, and it is deeply gratifying for your child to directly raise money for the school.

Check out the Miraloma Website for more information or email Lourdes Garcia or Leslie Thorndike

Miraloma Auction - Help Get Donations!

The Miraloma 2010 Auction is coming up and we need help getting donations! Deadline for donations is March 12! We have a great place, music, food and beverages ... now we just need fabulous items to bid on.  Please approach all your favorite and local community vendors to see if they would be willing to donate their goods or services.  Take a Donor Cover Letter (feel free to personalize) and Donor Form everywhere you go.  You can also ask businesses if they want to be a sponsor or advertise at our event with the Sponsor/Ad Form.  If you are willing to follow-up with identified potential donors, email the Auction Committee and we will guide you.  Check the bulletin board and www.miralomasf.com for information about businesses we have solicited and need follow-up.
Thanks for your help!

Say NO to (even more) Budget Cuts! Parents at Sherman are working hard to get a grassroots advocacy effort going among SF public school parents to stop the budget insanity - let's join them! One of the first events is an open SF Town Hall meeting on February 25 moderated by Michael Krasny, host of KQED's award-winning Forum. RSVP to this event NOW!
We are hoping to get at least 50 Miraloma parents there and would love a standing room only house to show our policy makers that enough is enough.

 Student Council
The Student Council is sponsoring a reusable stainless steel water bottle campaign to replace plastic bottles. The funds from the campaign will be used for green projects at school.
There are 2 sizes: 600ml stainless ($15 each) and 350ml small stainless ($10 each). Each stainless bottle proudly shows the Miraloma dragon and the school name. The Student Council will be pre-selling them on Friday mornings after morning circle until February 19.

In addition, the Council would like to help with Haitian earthquake relief. They will be providing containers for classrooms and will also have a coin collection container on Fridays when they are pre-selling the water bottles. Remember, every penny counts!
Collected coins will be given to a reputable charity like the American Red Cross. The Student Council will report back to the Miraloma Community on the funds raised through both campaigns in late February or early March.
