 The 2010 Read-a-thon IS HERE!
Your support is needed for the success of this program. The Read-a-thon fosters positive reading habits, promotes literacy and financially supports our school’s Art curriculum. With this program 100% of the proceeds go directly to Miraloma!! Our primary goal every year is to have every child participating in the program, whether they are able to solicit pledges or not; we all win by encouraging each child to read!
Packets were delivered to your child today in their classroom. For those new to the program and fundraiser, It’s simple, your children:
  • Read (or are read to) and keep track of the reading time
  • Solicit pledges from friends and relatives for the reading time
  • and then collect pledges for all their hard work!

Last year we raised a record $19,745.00! Let’s beat that!
The Read-a-thon Committee

Miraloma Auction - Help Get Donations!
The Miraloma 2010 Auction is coming up and we need help getting donations! We have a great place, music, food and beverages ... now we just need fabulous items to bid on.  Please approach all your favorite and local community vendors to see if they would be willing to donate their goods or services.  Take a Donor Cover Letter (feel free to personalize) and Donor Form everywhere you go.  You can also ask businesses if they want to be a sponsor or advertise at our event with the Sponsor/Ad Form.  If you are willing to follow-up with identified potential donors, email the Auction Committee and we will guide you.  Check the bulletin board and www.miralomasf.com for information about businesses we have solicited and need follow-up.  Thanks for your help!
Miraloma Night at the Golden State Warriors
The 2nd annual Miraloma/Rooftop fundraising school night at the Warriors game is coming up Saturday, March 13. The game is at 7:30 pm at Oakland Arena and easy to get to on BART. We had over 100 people last year and it was a fun evening. Ticket order forms will be coming out this week on the website and available in the main office at school. For any questions please contact:

Feeling Helpless about the Budget? Start Taking Action
Say NO to (even more) Budget Cuts! Parents at Sherman are working hard to get a grassroots advocacy effort going among SF public school parents to stop the budget insanity - let's join them! One of the first events is an open SF Town Hall meeting on February 25 moderated by Michael Krasny, host of KQED's award-winning Forum.
We are hoping to get at least 50 Miraloma parents there and would love a standing room only house to show our policy makers that enough is enough.
Here are the specifics.
 Fundraiser at Pacific Catch Restaurant
The Delicious Pacific Catch (9th Ave @ Lincoln) is helping us again this year with a February restaurant fundraiser!
  • February 9th (K/1st grade night), Tuesday
  • February 16th (2nd/3rd grade night), Tuesday
  • February 23rd (4th/5th grade night), Tuesday
Specific grades not mandatory, you can join in on any night, just highlighting classrooms for the community. Please make reservations ahead of time to help their staff: 415.504.6905 Vouchers will be available at First Friday, February 5th!
  First Friday
There will be scrip, logo wear, Pacific Catch vouchers, Miraloma dragon stainless steel water bottles and more items for sale after drop off next to the cafeteria.
 Student Council
The Student Council is sponsoring a reusable stainless steel water bottle campaign to replace plastic bottles. The funds from the campaign will be used for green projects at school.
There are 2 sizes: 600ml stainless ($15 each) and 350ml small stainless ($10 each). Each stainless bottle proudly shows the Miraloma dragon and the school name.
The Student Council will be pre-selling them on Friday mornings after morning circle until February 19.

In addition, the Council would like to help with Haitian earthquake relief. They will be providing containers for classrooms and will also have a coin collection container on Fridays when they are pre-selling the water bottles. Remember, every penny counts!
Collected coins will be given to a reputable charity like the American Red Cross. The Student Council will report back to the Miraloma Community on the funds raised through both campaigns in late February or early March.

Thank you for supporting Miraloma and the larger community,
Student Council
