The time to start preparing for the Miraloma 2010 Auction is here!
As many of you know, our first annual evening adults-only auction last May was an amazing success - we raised over $35,000 and had a fun time doing it! This year we hope to build on the success of last year both as a fundraiser as well as a community building event. In order to do that, WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Where & When: The Verdi Club on April 24th, 2010. Doors open and bidding starts at 5:30pm. Live Auction starts at 9:00pm. Food & drinks will be provided. Information on tickets will follow in January.
How to Help: Please read the Family Handbook and FAQs to find out about the different ways you can contribute.
To donate items, please print and fill out the Donation Form and Donor Letter as instructed.
To get sponsors involved, print and fill out the Sponsorship & Advertisement Form.
Soon to Come: Auction website and an Auction bulletin board with hard copies of all auction documents.
Please email Katrin Robb your questions and ideas.
Thank you for doing your part in making the Miraloma 2010 Auction a great success. We look forward to seeing everyone there!
Thanks,
Katrin Robb, Miraloma 2010 Auction Chair & the Miraloma 2010 Auction Team

PTA Breakfast Potluck Replaces Meeting this Month
Next week's PTA meeting has been rescheduled to a Holiday breakfast potluck (Hand-held baked goods only please). Immediately after drop off Wednesday December 9th from 8-9 in the cafetaria - right where the WE used to be assembled. Please bring something to share or just come and hear what's going on at the school. We're expecting little ones to run around and interrupt us mid-sentence, so please feel free to bring yours along.
We'll present the current state of the budget and talk about upcoming events, but mostly think of it as an easy way to kick into holiday mode and have a bite with your community.

CTA: Data show QEIA schools making academic gains
U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan likes to talk about states needing to concentrate reform efforts on low-performing schools. In California, teachers like Amy Kraft in Sacramento County have been doing just that for a few years now thanks to a CTA-sponsored law that's helping our schools of greatest need succeed. read more...

Miraloma Poem
Jeff D. Kaliss
Jeff D. Kaliss, my father,
Who is the Iron Horse, even more than Lou Gehrig,
Who writes articles, cooks, drives us places,
reads to my class, and still has time to love his family,
Who remembers playing soccer when he was eleven in England,
Who answers all my questions,
Who loves everyone he meets.

Jeff D. Kaliss,
The man who I have spent most of my life with,
Whose eyes are my eyes,
Who can do everything in his head,
Who has a big mind, almost as big as his heart,
Who has more nicknames for me then anyone has for anyone, like Nickel, Nick, and Nike.
And this all adds up to the man who gave me life
and still is my favorite man in the world.

By Nick, Room 16
