Traditional "flag-up" ceremony Tuesday, November 10, 7:40am. Please join Girl Scout Troop #32215 in commemorating Veterans Day. Veterans Day in the US was established by Congress after World War I “to mark the cessation of the most destructive, sanguinary, and far reaching war in human annals and the resumption by the people of the United States of peaceful relations with other nations, which we hope may never again be severed.” While this hope has not yet been realized, we still remember those men and women who have served our country. First Fridays - This Week! Scrip, logowear and more will be on sale outside of the cafeteria after drop off on November 6th. Can't make it this time? We'll be doing the same thing every first Friday of the month throughout the schoolyear. Community Service: SF Food Bank School Food Drive November 2-December 16 – please bring in non-perishable food items and place in barrels. Items needed include: rice and pasta, canned fruit and vegetables, tuna, canned meats, soups, stews and chili, peanut butter and cereal. Trick-or-Treat For UNICEF Please return money collected to the office by this Friday. Candy for the Troops If you are trying to figure out what to do with that 'extra' halloween candy or want to get it out of your house, please bring it to the main office of the school - there will be a bucket set up for 'Candy for the Troops.' We will collect and bring it along to the dentist in West Portal who sends it along. Please hand in the candy by Thursday, November 12 end of day Miraloma Garden Tile Mural Update The ceramics teacher, Aileen Barr, is designing a tile mural project with the 3rd/4th/5th Grades. The mural will be installed in the garden and will have as its theme the garden itself, what grows about and below ground. The children are busy making handmade tile depicting vegetable, flowers, insects, birds and animals. The mural will consist of the children’s tile and mosaic. For the mosaic we need donations of colorful high fire commercial tile in greens, blues and yellow/ browns. High fire tile is more suited for outdoors and is usually a little heavier than bathroom tile. We will also need some volunteers with a tile saw who will cut the commercial tile into strips. We plan to install the mural in the Spring. Thanks to those families offering supplies in response to our earlier request. Now that we have a mural plan, and specific materials needed, please contact Mia Straghalis (mia@straghalis.com) if you have something (tile or skills) to donate! Fun Run Thank You & Reminder The RUN Coordinators gratefully acknowledge all of the committee members, volunteers, sponsors, teachers, staff and kids for participating in the 2009 Miraloma Fun Run. View a list of all those involved and the 2009 RUN SPONSORS with special offers to Miraloma friends & families! You should get your pledges in by this Thursday November 5. Of course, you can continue to turn money in after Thursday, but our goal is to have everything in by Nov 5. We will be announcing our grand totals shortly thereafter!
