School Site Council Meeting
The School Site Council (SSC) will be holding its first meeting of the year on Monday, September 13, from 6:30 - 8:00pm in the library.
The SSC Board is an elected group of parents and teachers (plus Principal Machado) that collects information from the school community (parents, teachers and students) and uses it to make decisions regarding funding
and programs at our school. The main responsibilities of the board members
is to attend the monthly meetings, be a liaison to the community, and help with SSC tasks such as our annual survey.
Remember, you do not have to be on the Board to be an active participant
of the SSC. So help make a difference, and get involved! Come and join us at our first meeting of the year.
Free Childcare and light snacks will be provided.
Hope to see you there!
Virginia Schuler and
Leslie Acosta-Bhattacharya
SSC Co-Chairs
Volunteer Opportunities
Welcome back to school!
Our children benefit from a high level of parent participation from our strong school community. We appreciate all of our school volunteers, whether you are available to help frequently or rarely.
Here is an overview of annual school happenings with the basic time requirements, so you can plan when and how you’d like to help. This list is your rough guide to the requests for volunteer sign-up opportunities to be announced throughout the year in the weekly newsletter, on our school listserv (Yahoo! Group) and by your room parents.
Thank you in advance for your efforts on behalf of our children, teachers, and community.
Sincerely,
Julie Wise
PTA Volunteer Coordinator

Garden Party Food & Cooking Workshop
As the From the Farm snack program continues to inspire conversations about how our families eat we have included food and cooking workshops at our garden work days. Our first Garden Day focused on Strong Breakfasts.
Some ideas for healthy, lasting breakfasts are:
'Fun Run' Save the Date
3rd Annual Miraloma Fun Run, a Fall Fundraiser and Community Event
Sunday October 17th, 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM
@ Lowell High School Track
[Facebook Event]
The Run is styled like a walkathon where families, friends, and co-workers sponsor our students as they jog around a quarter mile track. The Run is much more than a fundraiser. It's a fun, family day too. The Run brings our school community together, so the kids and families can bond with their classmates and the greater Miraloma community. After the running, we gather at centerfield where the entire school shares a potluck picnic. The Run is a perfect day to meet new friends and reconnect with old friends.
Ways To Help:
-
Become an R3 (Run Room Representative). You disseminate information and encourage participation by your class. This can easily be done from home, via email.
-
Each family should sign up for a 30 minute or 1 hour shift the day of the Run. If we all work together, it’s not work at all.
-
Check outside of your class for the sign-up sheet posted at Back to School Night
-
Help Distribute Run T shirts to classes the week of October 11th
-
Calling all Camp Counselors or Cheerleaders; Perform a SKIT with us at morning circle on OCT 15th
-
Do you FB or Tweet? Help us market the RUN via facebook (share this event on FB) or twitter.
-
Nurture our future Maya Angelous or Robert Frosts – help us promote the Run Writing Contest.
-
Help us find SPONSORS – recommend fitness related stores and classes who may want to get some serious marketing returns on investment.
